Patrick Pichette has decided that his high-powered postition, no matter how alluring, rewarding and exciting, has too many trade offs that cannot be paid for in mere dollars.
He clearly loves his professional life, Google, and his co-workers, but as he mentions a few times : Carpe Diem – part of his life has essentially been put on hold.
He also humorously counts himself among the "Fraternity of Worldwide Insecure Over-achievers" which begs the question, how many of us are driven by insecurity? Does thie beg further introspection or is this just more naval gazing?
Regardless Patrick's message is, to be sure, thought provoking and more than a few of us can take a lesson on steeping back for just a moment to look at life.
